Which states have the most pensions and which states have most pension plans?
NEW YORK — The number of Americans earning retirement incomes that meet the minimum pension requirements in all 50 states is now more than two million, the U.S. Government Accountability Office announced Friday.
The total number of pension plans is nearly two million in all, but many states have a mix of plans that cover a wide variety of workers.
States with the most pension programs include Alabama, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
States with most plans include Florida, Iowa and Oklahoma, as well as Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
States without the most retirement plans include New Hampshire, North Dakota, Montana, Ohio, Utah and Wisconsin.
States that have the lowest number of pensions and plans include Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, Georgia and Michigan.
